The Six O'Clock News
There he was on the TV screen. The same man, but he was a couple of decades older. I dropped the frozen vegan dinner that I had been eating onto the floor. In autopilot mode, I picked up the droppings and chucked what remained of my meal into the garbage can.
I, then, headed to the fridge and randomly selected a new boxed supper.
I shoved it into the microwave. Seven minutes later, I attempted to take a bite
of my faux-chicken Chipotle, but I spat the food into the sink.
I learned more about him from the news report. His name was Christopher
Sanders, and he was a divorced father of two teenage sons. He served as the CEO
of a fertilizer company called Plantigrowfication and had been living just a
couple of counties away from me.
I first met him as I walked out of the bathroom stall in college. Being
only 5'4, he grabbed me by the neck and tried to choke me. I had screamed and
tried to fight him off of me
A passerby heard me and managed to pull him off me. The attacker ended up
pushing the good Samaritan into the wall before running off.
And he was on the run again.
He
had, recently, joined a new golf course, but he faced bad luck when the caddy recognized
him and shouted, "This man beat me up back in college! Help!"
Amidst the chaos and confusion on the golf course, he vanished by
fleeing into the bushes.
I gathered the strength to call 911, sweating profusely. My hands
trembled and my heart raced as I waited for the emergency dispatcher to answer.
``911, what’s your emergency?``
``It’s about the CEO fertilizer,`` I said in a high-pitched voice.
``I will ask you questions slowly if that’s okay. Please breathe and
take your time.``
